Throw Kindness Like Confetti
During the middle of the school year, students (and teachers!) sometimes get antsy and start to get on each others’ nerves. Students argue, get tired of others’ quirky behavior, and often just become a lot less tolerant. It is a good time to become a bit more observant of the good acts that occur every day. Sometimes we forget just how much others do for us in the classroom, just how many kind acts are done every day. So, in order to bring light to our kind acts, I created this door. The students and I could place a post-it note on the door for any kind act someone did for them. And the door filled quickly! Students were surprised how many times a day someone did something kind! It made the kids who filled out the post-it feel good, and it made the person who was written about feel good. Happiness all around! The bickering quieted down, at least for a while!
Here is what our door looked like after students recognized the kind acts we can do every day to make a difference in someone’s life!
