Puppy Chow (Muddy Buddies)

This recipe has always been a favorite with my family. In fact, one of my sons would come home and make a ‘personal sized’ version just for himself before I arrived home! Of course, I did not know this, but pantry items were disappearing at an alarming rate! They often request we make this soon after arriving home. Puppy Chow is a great treat to bag individually for a special snack.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Course Dessert
Cuisine American
Servings 10 people

Ingredients

  • 10 cups Chex type cereal We like the rice variety
  • 3/4 c peanut butter smooth or crunchy
  • 1/3 c butter sliced into pieces
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 10 oz chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar may need more, just to completely cover the cereal

Instructions

  • Place chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter in a large microwavable bowl,. Microwave, uncovered in 30 second increments until melted, stirring each time. It should be fairly smooth, though thick. Add vanilla and stir. Add cereal, a few cups at a time. Stir carefully to not break apart the cereal. Keep adding cereal until the chocolate mix covers the cereal fairly evenly. Add about half of the powdered sugar and stir, or, as we do, put a good lid on it and shake! Carefully remove lid and stir. You could also place the mixture in a sturdy zip lock bag. Add more powdered sugar as needed. Store in sealed bowl or baggie.
